OPERATIONS HAVE resumed on the Escravos Lagos Pipeline System following the successful restoration of the major gas transportation asset in Warri, Delta State, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited, has announced.
In a signed statement by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, from Abuja on December 29, 2025, said the pipeline was fully repaired, tested and safely recommissioned after an unexpected explosion disrupted operations on December 10, 2025.
The company stated that emergency response procedures were activated immediately after the incident, triggering coordinated containment actions aimed at securing the affected area and preventing further damage.
Also, the national oil company said multidisciplinary teams were mobilised to address the damaged section of the pipeline, working under strict safety and environmental protocols throughout the repair process.
Pressure testing was also conducted before the system was recommissioned to ensure operational integrity and reliability, the company said.
NNPC further described the restoration as a demonstration of its resilience and its ongoing commitment to Nigeria’s energy security, noting that the pipeline is now fully operational adding that the successful outcome reflected sustained efforts by its technical teams to complete the work safely and within record time.
The corporation attributed the achievement to collective support from several stakeholders, including host communities, regulatory authorities, security agencies, partners and its workforce, and also saying the cooperation and vigilance of these groups were critical to restoring operations following the explosion.
In its statement, the company acknowledged the role of host communities in supporting repair activities, as well as the guidance provided by regulators during the restoration process.
It also recognised the contribution of security agencies in ensuring a secure environment for repair teams to operate without disruption.
NNPC Limited said the incident presented a significant operational challenge but noted that collaboration among stakeholders helped turn the situation into a successful recovery effort.
The company added that safety and environmental stewardship remained central considerations throughout the restoration work noting that the corporation said the repair and recommissioning process adhered to the highest safety standards, underscoring its commitment to protecting surrounding communities and the environment.
It also stated that environmental protection measures were maintained from the initial response through to the completion of the work.
Looking ahead, NNPC aid it remains committed to safeguarding its infrastructure and ensuring the reliability of its assets and reiterated its pledge to maintain the integrity of critical energy infrastructure while continuing to support national development objectives.
Protecting communities and preserving the environment, the company said, remain priorities as it operates and maintains its assets across the country, adding that it would continue to implement measures aimed at preventing incidents and responding swiftly when challenges arise.
The NNPC also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their trust and support during the restoration process, noting that collaboration remains essential to sustaining energy operations assuring that it remains focused on powering progress for Nigeria and beyond through reliable and secure energy supply.
