Falconets of Nigeria Sends Out Scorchers of Malawi 3-2 in World Cup Qualifier

NIGERIA’s FALCONETS on Saturday maintained a perpetual appearance at the world u20 female championship as the team edged out the Young Scorchers of Malawi on goals aggregate of 3-2.

Malawi had boasted to scorch out Nigeria importing two professional players for the encounter which paid off as Faith Chinzimu (one of the two new imports) scored in the 8th minute of play and made a brace scoring the 2nd goal in the 57th minute to give Malawi high hopes of qualification.

The entire crowd in Malawi’s second largest city went dumb turning the stadium to a grave yard when Precious Oscar scored for Nigeria to make the aggregate 3-2 in favor of Nigeria and the 12th time Nigeria will appear at the Mundial, this time in Poland.

Nigeria had won the 1st leg at Ikenne Remo 2-0.

The Black Princesses of Ghana grabbed the 2nd of the four tickets to Poland in the Nigerian style beating the Queen Cranes of Uganda 3-2 on aggregate.

Ghana that struggled coming from behind to win the 1st leg 2-1 but a 10-woman Princesses drew at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru 1-1 on Saturday.

Sylvia Kabena had scored for Uganda in the 6th minute to scare the Ghanaians who bagged a red from Ethiopian Ref Lydia Abebe in the 69th minute before Ghana scored the equalizer in the 79th minute to qualify for Poland 2026.

Tomorrow Sunday at 1330 hours Nigerian time, the 3rd ticket will be contested for between Tanzania and Cameroon. Cameroon won the 1st leg 3-1 in Yaounde.

At 4.00pm Nigerian time, Ivory Coast Babes will file out against the Benin Republic Babes at away after playing 1-1 draw in Abidjan for the 1st leg

Nigeria’s Falconets had appeared a record twelfth time in the African final phase and moved forward twelfth times to the world cup finals in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2022, 2024 and 2026.

For the Poland race, Nigeria rounded up Rwanda 5-0 on aggregate winning 1st leg 1-0 in Rwanda and raided them 4-0 in the 2nd leg. That was at the 2nd round of the African qualifier.

At the 3rd round, Nigeria sent Senegal gasping for breath 3-1 on aggregate with a 1-0 victory at Ikenne in the 1st leg and a stunning 2-1 victory in the 2nd leg in Dakar.

Nigeria were runners up at two world cup finals in 2010 and 2014. Nigeria lost to hosts Germany in 2010 and same German team in 2014. In 2010 Nigeria lost 0-2 to Germany and in 2014 Nigeria lost by a lone goal.

The year 2014 was nostalgic when Agba Baller, Asisat Oshoala was top scorer with 7 goals and also emerged Best Player in that tournament.

Nigeria had caged the Tigress of North Korea 6-2 in the 1st Semifinal at Mincton, Canada that 2014 before 4,871 fans where Oshoala wrecked the Tigress scoring four goals in that single match in the 24th, 60th, 68th and 85th minutes.

Can this bunch of Falconets make an encore in Poland?

The world women’s football cup finals will run among 24 nations from 5th to 27th September 2026 in Popand. The defending champions, North Korea is set for a superlative performance.
