THE FEDERAL Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has warned loan apps and businesses to desist from harassing or intimidating Nigerians over unpaid debts.
The commission stated that it is committed to safeguarding consumers and urged Nigerians to promptly report any form of harassment or intimidation by lenders.
According to the commission, the directive follows increasing complaints about aggressive debt recovery tactics, including threatening phone calls, text messages and public shaming on social media.
Reaffirming its position, the commission declared that no consumer should live in fear and assured Nigerians that it will continue to protect them from unfair and deceptive practices.
It added that loan apps and businesses that persist in harassing borrowers will face serious sanctions.
The commission further encouraged Nigerians to channel complaints through its official website and social media platforms, stressing that swift action will be taken against offenders.
