MR ADEBAYO Adelabu, the Minister of Power, has revealed the Federal Government’s ambitious plan to ramp up power generation from the current 4000 Megawatts to 6000 Megawatts by the year’s end.
Speaking during a visit by the Senate Committee on Power yesterday in Abuja, Adelabu emphasized utilizing hydro and solar plants to bolster electricity supply to homes and businesses.
Expressing dismay over the current peak generation of 5800 Megawatts, Adelabu highlighted the underutilized infrastructure and stressed the importance of maintenance to prevent further decay.
He stressed the potential for reaching the 6000 Megawatts milestone with substantial investment.
Additionally, Adelabu addressed plans for a transformation of the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), labeling them as crucial entities in the power supply chain, emphasizing the government’s commitment to holding DisCos accountable, and signaling potential repercussions for underperformance, including license withdrawal.
He stressed that the current government is committed to bolstering the nation’s power sector and offering hope for improved electricity access and reliability in Nigeria.
