CALLS FOR confidence and unity have gone out to the Super Eagles as the Federal Government (FG) urged the national team to approach their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against Morocco with belief and togetherness.

In a statement on Wednesday, the minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the entire country stands firmly behind the team, praising their discipline, courage and belief throughout the tournament.

“As you prepare to face Morocco in the AFCON semi-finals, I want you to know that the whole of Nigeria stands firmly with you,” Idris said.

He said the team’s performances have reminded Nigerians why the Super Eagles remain one of the most respected teams on the continent.

“You have been here before; you know what it takes to win at this level,” he said.

Idris said Nigeria’s past AFCON triumphs and victories against tough opponents were products of teamwork, confidence and fighting spirit.

“Those victories were not accidents; they came from teamwork, confidence, and a fighting spirit, and you have shown that same spirit in this tournament,” he said.

The minister said the players carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians as they step onto the pitch.

“As you step onto the pitch, remember that you are not alone; you carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians,” he said.

He urged the team to play with the confidence of champions and the unity of brothers while remaining hungry for success.

“Stay focused, trust one another, and give your best from the first whistle to the last,” Idris said.

He said the players have earned their place at the semi final stage and possess the quality to go further in the competition.

His message concluded with prayers and goodwill for the team, calling on the players to perform with heart, pride and commitment for the nation.

“Tonight, go out there and write another proud chapter in our football story,” he said.

“Play with heart, play with pride, play for Nigeria.”

The Super Eagles will face Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday at 9.00pm Nigerian time.
