FIGHTING HUNGER with a hands-on approach, Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed food packs to vulnerable residents of Victoria Island in Lagos under its Fidelity Food Bank scheme, reinforcing its commitment to community development through impactful corporate responsibility.

The outreach, held in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area, attracted residents from varied backgrounds and marked another milestone in the bank’s strategic social investment.

The Fidelity Food Bank initiative, a flagship programme in the institution’s CSR portfolio, aims to combat hunger, poverty, and malnutrition while improving health outcomes in underserved communities.

According to Mr Adebayo Adeyinka, Executive Technical Assistant to the Managing Director/CEO, the initiative reflects a deeper national commitment. “The Fidelity Food Bank was established to address the pressing challenges of poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and infant and maternal mortality within our communities,” he said.

He added that the initiative aligns with Goal 2 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – Zero Hunger – and that Fidelity Bank remains steadfast in taking the programme nationwide, reaching camps for internally displaced persons and communities in flood-prone regions such as Niger State.

Echoing the long-term value of the intervention, Mr Henry Asiegbu, Divisional Head of Operations at the bank, noted that the impact of the programme has garnered widespread commendation. “This intervention has been positively received at all levels – from community members to government and partner organisations,” he said.

For residents in Victoria Island, the support served as both relief and a reaffirmation of trust. Community representative Victoria Olubiyo expressed deep appreciation. “Fidelity Bank has brought joy to our lives. Even during the no-cash crisis, their ATMs were always working. They’ve provided boreholes, fulfilled their promises, and shown genuine care. Today, people – men, women, children, even those living with disabilities – are supported. I urge other banks to follow their example,” she stated.

Another beneficiary, Jerome Igbe, described the gesture as unexpected but deeply meaningful. “This means so much to struggling families. I honestly didn’t expect this kind of support. May God bless them and replenish their resources,” he said.

The Fidelity Food Bank programme continues to exemplify the institution’s vision of sustainable impact and responsive banking.

Through such outreach, the bank not only supports nutritional needs but also strengthens the resilience of grassroots communities.
