ECONOMIC COLLABORATION and cultural exchange took centre stage as President Bola Tinubu commenced his state visit to France.

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Tinubu at the iconic Hôtel National des Invalides in Paris, marking a historic diplomatic engagement.

Tinubu’s visit is the first by a Nigerian leader in over two decades.

The meeting between the two leaders affirms a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Both nations aim to expand cooperation across critical sectors, including agriculture, security, education, and energy transition.

Tinubu emphasised Nigeria’s readiness to explore new partnerships during this high-level visit.

“Nigeria and France have a rich history of collaboration across various sectors. I am eager to engage in our bilateral discussions and explore avenues that will benefit both nations,” Tinubu stated in his address, underscoring the potential for economic growth and innovation.

Upon arrival, Tinubu inspected a ceremonial guard of honour and expressed gratitude for the warm reception.

The event was attended by senior French officials, Nigerian dignitaries, and key industry stakeholders. Macron highlighted the importance of Nigeria in Africa’s economic landscape, expressing France’s interest in deepening ties with English-speaking nations on the continent.

Key discussions during the visit included strategies to foster investments in solid minerals, communication, trade, and sustainable energy.

France also aims to strengthen its relationship with Africa’s largest economy to counter recent diplomatic setbacks in French-speaking African nations.

Nigeria faces economic challenges, with inflation and poverty rates rising.

Tinubu’s delegation, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, seeks to leverage this visit to attract investments and establish sustainable development initiatives.

Nigeria President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, joined in diplomatic engagements, meeting Brigitte Macron to discuss cultural and social programmes.

The visit, according to the two leaders, signifies a new chapter in Nigeria-France relations, setting the stage for deeper collaborations that address pressing global challenges.

They said both nations look forward to developing projects that strengthen economic resilience, create job opportunities, and promote innovation.
