AIMING TO boost socio-economic activities in his state region’s rural communities, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed his committed to delivering the Trans-Kalabari Road project while addressing the residents.

He urged for their support and vigilance against any sabotage that could delay the project.

The announcement was made during the project’s ceremony at Nkpor-Aker Road Roundabout in the Rumuolumeni community.

The event was officiated by former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who praised the governor’s vision and determination.

Fubara acknowledged the challenging swampy terrain and high costs but emphasized his administration’s resolve to complete the project without incurring debt.

He revealed that 30% of the contract sum has already been paid, funded by the state’s internally generated revenue and federal allocations.

He also reminded the community of the campaign promise to initiate the Trans-Kalabari Road if elected, underscoring his administration’s commitment to keeping promises and emphasized the project’s potential to transform local economies and improve living standards.

Former President Jonathan commended Fubara’s courage and foresight in embarking on the ambitious project, highlighting its significance for improved transportation, security response, and economic integration.

Jonathan also called for political unity in Rivers State, urging Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike to work together for the state’s development.

Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Works, Engr Atemea Briggs, described the road project as a critical infrastructure development spanning 12.5 kilometers with multiple bridges and advanced features and assured that the project would link Kalabari communities to the metropolis, enhancing connectivity and growth.

The Managing Director of Lubrik Construction Company Limited, Engr Hadi Shihadi, confirmed the company’s readiness to commence work, contingent on community cooperation.

Traditional rulers from Rumuolumeni and Kalabari communities offered prayers for the project’s success, marking the formal start of construction with the symbolic ignition of construction equipment.
