BENJAMIN BEST Nnanyereugo, popularly known as Killaboi, has been extradited to Nigeria to face charges in connection with the alleged murder of 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe, a first-class student at Lead City University, Ibadan.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed his return from Doha in the early hours of Saturday following several months of international pursuit.
According to a statement issued by Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Nnanyereugo had been on the run since July 2023, when Onuwabhagbe was found dead at his residence on Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
Her death sparked a nationwide manhunt, intensified by a petition filed by the victim’s family on 29 September 2024.
The case was subsequently assigned to INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja.
Nnanyereugo initially surfaced in Sierra Leone, where he was arrested under the alias “Kanu Princeton Samuel” on 20 October 2023.
However, he escaped during a prison break on 26 November.
Authorities revealed that he had since travelled through various countries under false identities before eventually arriving in Doha on 24 January 2025 with a fake Guinean passport under the name “Toure Abdoulaye.”
Despite attempts to conceal his identity, INTERPOL offices in Abuja and Doha confirmed his true identity using advanced biometric analysis.
He was eventually arrested by Qatari authorities in February.
A formal extradition request was filed through the Federal Ministry of Justice, and approval was granted by Qatari judicial authorities, paving the way for his return to Nigeria.
Police disclosed that after allegedly committing the murder, Nnanyereugo posted an online video appearing to confess to the crime—an act investigators described as a calculated attempt to obstruct the investigation.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the international collaboration that led to the extradition. He acknowledged the contributions of INTERPOL, the Qatari government, the Nigerian Ministry of Justice, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar.
He assured the public that the suspect would face diligent prosecution in Nigeria, reaffirming the police force’s commitment to justice and national safety.
