DURING the commemoration of the 2024 Girls in Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Day in Lagos on Thursday, Globacom, a leading telecommunications company, issued a resounding call to schoolgirls nationwide, urging them to boldly aspire to leadership roles in the face of challenges.

Mrs. Kemi Fadipe, representing Globacom at the event, emphasized the importance of nurturing girls’ ambitions and fostering their leadership potential.

Addressing the young audience, she passionately encouraged them to pursue their dreams with fervor, assuring them that with dedication, they can achieve significant leadership positions in the future.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of education in shaping future leaders, Fadipe advised the girls to prioritize their studies, laying a solid foundation for their journey towards leadership.

She stressed the value of seeking mentorship from successful women and building supportive networks comprising peers, teachers, family members, and mentors who believe in their capabilities.

Furthermore, Fadipe urged the girls not to shy away from assuming leadership roles in various capacities, whether within school projects, clubs, or community initiatives.

“Taking on responsibilities demonstrates initiative, builds confidence, and showcases leadership potential,” she affirmed, highlighting the importance of stepping out of comfort zones and embracing new experiences as avenues for growth and learning.

In the context of a rapidly evolving technological landscape, Fadipe underscored the significance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in empowering girls, emphasizing that it not only nurtures individual development but also plays a crucial role in advancing gender equality and driving societal progress.

Highlighting the exemplary achievements of women in STEM fields, both locally and internationally, Fadipe noted their exceptional leadership skills, resilience, and dedication as they serve as inspiring role models, paving the way for future generations of female leaders across Africa and beyond.

The event, attended by secondary school students from selected schools in Lagos and Ogun states, served as a platform for fostering dialogue and empowerment, reinforcing the message that with determination and support, girls can excel in ICT and beyond, shaping a brighter future for themselves and their communities, Glo affirmed.
