FRESH LEADERSHIP emerged at the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) following the inauguration of a new executive council in Lagos, marking a new chapter in the organisation’s drive to strengthen professionalism and collaboration within Nigeria’s digital media sector.
The newly constituted council is headed by Danlami Nmodu, mni, who was elected President after securing the majority of votes in a closely contested poll.
Other members of the executive include Olumide Iyanda as Deputy President, Sufuyan Ojeifo as General Secretary, Akeem Oyetunji as Deputy General Secretary, Ngozi Onyeakusi as Treasurer, Moses Ebosele as Financial Secretary, and Kemi Yesufu as Publicity Secretary.
With the handover, Nmodu succeeded the immediate past President, Maureen Chigbo, publisher of Realnews magazine, who led the guild through its previous tenure.
In his acceptance speech, Nmodu expressed appreciation to members of the guild for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to uphold the ideals and constitution of GOCOP while steering the body towards greater growth and inclusivity within Nigeria’s online publishing industry. “I take the responsibility of the office seriously.
“Our members shall come first. I promise to work harmoniously with other EXCO officers and members to take GOCOP to a higher level of growth,” he said.
He assured members that the new leadership would prioritise capacity-building, collaboration, and expansion of opportunities for all practitioners under the guild’s umbrella.
“We will focus on creating more human capital and business opportunities for all members,” Nmodu added, outlining his vision for a more cohesive and empowered community of corporate online publishers.
The GOCOP election, held during the Annual General Congress, was organised under the supervision of the Electoral Committee chaired by Yusuf Ozi-Usman.
According to Ozi-Usman, a total of 120 members were registered as of 8 October, while 114 were constitutionally qualified to vote and be voted for.
He confirmed that 80 members were present at the congress in person, with 71 casting their votes physically and nine participating through electronic voting.
The chairperson announced that Nmodu secured 56 votes to emerge as President, defeating his opponent, Segun Adeleye, in what was described as a transparent and credible process.
Other positions within the new executive council were filled unopposed, reflecting broad consensus among members on the team’s capability to advance the guild’s objectives.
The new leadership is expected to build on the achievements of the outgoing executive while strengthening GOCOP’s role as a voice for ethical and responsible online journalism in Nigeria.
Since its formation, the guild has continued to promote standards, accountability, and collaboration among professional online media owners across the country.
With the inauguration concluded, members of GOCOP expressed optimism that the new executive council would continue to foster unity and uphold the guild’s commitment to credible online journalism and professional excellence.
