MILESTONE PUBLICATION spotlighting the evolution of digital journalism in Nigeria will take centre stage on Tuesday, June 17 as the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) hosts a public presentation of its book, Nigeria Media Renaissance: GOCOP Perspectives on Online Publishing, at Abuja Continental Hotel by 10:00am.

The presentation marks a defining moment for Nigeria’s media sector, reflecting on the pivotal role of online publishing in shaping national discourse, strengthening transparency, and contributing to democratic development.

The publication is a collective insight from seasoned editors and senior journalists who transitioned from traditional platforms to lead the digital frontier.

According to a press statement issued by GOCOP Publicity Secretary, Remmy Nweke, the event will also serve as a fundraising platform for the proposed N2.3 billion GOCOP Media Centre—a purpose-built facility envisioned to house a modern secretariat, state-of-the-art library, and multifunctional event spaces.

GOCOP President Maureen Chigbo underscored the significance of the book, describing it as a powerful reflection of the resilience and ingenuity of Nigerian media practitioners adapting to the demands of a digital-first world.

She noted that the publication not only captures the timeline of digital journalism in Nigeria but also contributes meaningfully to ongoing conversations around press freedom, civil liberties, and democratic accountability.

The occasion is expected to convene prominent figures across government, media, academia, the private sector, and civil society.

Attendees will deliberate on the challenges and emerging opportunities within Nigeria’s online publishing space, with particular focus on its role in shaping informed citizenry and reinforcing institutional checks.

Founded to uphold the core principles of journalism in the digital era, GOCOP today boasts a membership of 120, comprising top-tier media professionals committed to ethical standards and journalistic excellence in online reporting.
