FOLLOWING proceedings at the Ikeja High Court, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and his co-defendant, Harry Omoile, have been ordered into custody after facing charges of alleged involvement in a $4.5billion and N2.8billion fraud case.

The court decision was disclosed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s official handle after the session held on Monday in Lagos State.

Justice Rahman Oshodi, presiding over the case scheduled a bail hearing for Thursday, April 11, after both defendants entered a plea of not guilty.

During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel from the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, urged for an expedited trial to present their evidence.

Meanwhile, AbdulHakeem Labi-Lawal, representing the defendants, appealed for bail, suggesting “self-recognition” or “the most liberal terms.”

However, the court ordered Emefiele to be remanded in EFCC custody while Omolie was directed to Ikoyi correctional center until the bail hearing.

Responding to the bail, EFCC counsel did not object, emphasizing the court’s decision in granting bail.
