THE GROWING challenge of misinformation in the Nigerian society has prompted a media initiative to train young female journalists with the skills to tackle this issue effectively.

In collaboration with Vanguard Media Limited, the Female Freelancers Network (FFN) is hosting a two-day workshop titled Engagement4Exploration Media Project, aligned with WITNESS’s Fortifying Community Truth Project.

This workshop is scheduled for the end of October in Lagos, Nigeria.

Targeting mass communication students and recent graduates, the project coordinator, Emmanuel Chinwendu, urged applicants to submit their entries before the September 30 deadline.

Participants must have access to a laptop and will be notified of their selection in the first week of October.

The training will focus on building capacity in fact-checking and digital verification.

Attendees will also receive ongoing mentorship for three months after the workshop, working on engagement projects with media organizations and creating fact-checking reports.

Post mentorship programme fellows will also be placed in selected media houses and higher institutions, where they will be guided in producing fact-check reports.

The project also aims to provide participants with valuable networking opportunities, particularly for those seeking internships or long-term roles in the media industry.

FFN Founder, Elizabeth Osayande, highlighted the project’s three core objectives: to develop ethical fact-checkers, train a new generation of journalists with strong ethical values, and offer empowerment and networking opportunities to all participants.

The project’s core objectives are to develop ethical fact-checkers, instill a strong sense of responsibility in new journalists, and offer empowerment and networking opportunities within the media industry.

Interested applicants are urged to apply through a provided link to be able to participate in the professional: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeYFQaEWgfuxmxVhIhBeKjtiG1LYAdgt1Gt7DGNJO-LQieXmg/viewform
