DIRECT PRIMARY elections will be used by the All Progressives Congress across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the party confirmed the decision in a formal notification issued to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its members nationwide, stating that consensus candidacy will not be adopted.
The leadership said the move reflects a commitment to transparency and internal democracy.
A timetable released by the party outlined the schedule for the primaries.
It says Presidential primaries are set for May 15 and 16, 2026, while House of Representatives primaries will take place on May 18.
Senate primaries are scheduled for May 20, followed by State House of Assembly primaries on May 21.
Governorship primaries are slated for May 23.
The party assured aspirants of equal opportunity, stating that every member will participate directly in the process.
