TRANSFER OF leadership at Nigeria’s Finance Ministry has been completed following a formal handover from the immediate past minister, Wale Edun to Taiwo Oyedele, with the process confirmed in an official statement.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the transition took place on Thursday evening and was disclosed by the ministry’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Efe Ovuakporie, noting that the process was concluded within the timeline set by President Bola Tinubu.
Oyedele, in his inaugural remarks, pledged to build on existing reforms while prioritising tangible economic results.
He stated that his tenure would focus on fiscal discipline, transparency, and improved economic performance across key sectors.
He also expressed readiness to collaborate with ministry staff to enhance service delivery.
Edun’s successor commended the former minister for his contributions to Nigeria’s economic reform agenda and thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in the role.
Welcoming him, Permanent Secretary, Raymond Omachi and Permanent Secretary Special Duties, Mohammed Danjuma, assured him of full cooperation from the ministry’s workforce.
During Edun’s tenure, the ministry pursued fiscal reforms aimed at boosting revenue generation and strengthening economic coordination.
Officials noted that the period also faced challenges, particularly in budget implementation, with funding constraints affecting ministries, departments, and agencies as well as issues relating to outstanding obligations to pensioners and contractors being recorded.
Edun handed over office to Oyedele behind closed doors, with both men conducting the exercise outside media coverage.
Thereafter, a photo of the ceremony was later posted on the official X handle of the Federal Ministry of Finance shortly before 12.00am on Thursday night.
JKNewsMedia.com further reports that journalists had been placed on standby by ministry media handlers from early Thursday morning until evening, when a message informed them that the handover would take place behind closed doors and that a statement would be issued.
This change in plans created suspense over the decision to hold the ceremony out of public view as there had been previous speculations that Edun was eased out of the cabinet by President Bola Tinubu due to issues including ill health, conduct of budget performance reporting, and the need for a replacement, among others.
