CHIEF AUDU Ogbeh, former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has died at the age of 78.
His family, the Ogbeh clan, in a statement issued on Saturday confirmed that the former minister “passed away peacefully” on 9 August 2025.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather; Chief Audu Ogbeh.
He passed away on the 9th of August 2025 at the fulfilled age of 78,” the statement read.
The family also noted that Chief Ogbeh “departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community.”
It added that his life “touched many” and provided an example for others to follow.
According to the statement, details of funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
The family expressed gratitude to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their prayers and support, while requesting privacy as they mourn the loss of their patriarch.
Chief Audu Ogbeh was a seasoned politician who held several key roles in Nigeria’s political landscape over the decades.
He served as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, where he was known for his forthright approach and dedication to agricultural reform.
His career was marked by a longstanding commitment to public service and to advancing the nation’s farming sector.
