POLITICAL EVENTS in Rivers State entered a new phase on Monday evening as Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja for a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
The engagement marked his first official presence at the State House since his reinstatement as governor after six months of emergency rule in the state.
According to details released, Fubara arrived at the Villa at about 6:20pm. He was received without entourage and made his way directly to the President’s office for discussions held behind closed doors.
His reinstatement followed the lifting of the emergency rule imposed on Rivers earlier this year.
On 18 March 2025, President Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from office.
The measure was taken in response to political unrest that disrupted governance and stability in the state.
The suspension lasted until 17 September 2025, when the President formally announced the end of the emergency rule and reinstated the state’s elected leadership.
Following his reinstatement, Fubara had delivered a statewide broadcast in which he acknowledged the role played by the President in restoring constitutional order.

In his remarks, he stated that he remained “eternally grateful” to Tinubu for intervening in the crisis that engulfed Rivers.
Although the specific agenda of his Monday visit was not made public, the timing drew attention as it came within days of his return to full duties as governor.
Political observers noted that his meeting with the President followed weeks of heightened interest in the future direction of governance in the state after a turbulent period of suspension and federal oversight.
The Presidency confirmed the meeting but did not disclose the content of the discussions.
The session was described only as a closed-door engagement between the President and the Rivers governor.
Fubara’s visit signalled his resumption of full official interactions at the federal level after months of political interruption.
The Governor left the Presidential Villa after the meeting without addressing journalists, and no official statement was immediately released on the outcome of his discussions with the President.
