A STATE visit to the United States (U.S.) by Britain’s monarch, King Charles III, has been scheduled for April 27 to April 30, 2026, Buckingham Palace announced.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the trip comes at a time of tension between the U.S. and the United Kingdom (UK) over the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
However, some British politicians and members of the public have called for the visit to be delayed because of the situation.
US President Donald Trump welcomed the announcement and described the upcoming visit as “terrific.”
He stated that the visit would include a formal state banquet at the White House on April 28 and added that he looks forward to meeting the monarch.
The visit will take place as the U.S. prepares to mark its 250th anniversary of independence.
After leaving the U.S., King Charles III is expected to travel to Bermuda for an official engagement.
Relations between Washington and London have been strained in recent months.
President Trump has criticised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over Britain’s response to U.S. military actions involving Iran.
He earlier expressed disappointment after Britain initially declined to allow U.S. warplanes to operate from British bases during strikes.
Some British lawmakers have questioned whether the visit should go ahead at this time.
Emily Thornberry suggested delaying the visit to avoid possible diplomatic embarrassment, while Ed Davey criticised the decision to continue with the trip.
This will be King Charles III’s first state visit to the U.S. since becoming king.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the last British monarch to make a state visit to the U.S. was Queen Elizabeth II in 2007. Royal visits are often seen as part of diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.
