LAGOS STATE Police, led by CP Adegoke Fayoade, achieved a significant victory, Thursday, July 4, 2024, dismantling a notorious gang of kidnappers.

Two weeks ago, intelligence indicated the gang’s plan to abduct high-profile individuals in Lagos. Acting swiftly, CP Fayoade directed tactical teams to monitor and intercept the criminals.

He reveals that the decisive moment occurred in Ladipo, where police, armed with detailed intelligence, laid an ambush for the unsuspecting kidnappers.

The confrontation escalated into a shoot-out, but the superior firepower of the police prevailed, the police chief said.

Nine gang members were neutralized, while two escaped with gunshot wounds. Recovered from the scene were four AK-47 rifles, four locally-made semi-automatic pistols, nine AK-47 magazines, three walkie-talkies, a POS machine, a loudspeaker, and their operational vehicles: a black Toyota 4Runner and a blue Lexus RX350. Efforts are ongoing to capture the fleeing suspects.

Fayoade notes that his operation marks the end of an eight-month pursuit of this gang, responsible for a series of kidnappings in Isolo, Okota, Ejigbo, and Ladipo.

The dismantling of this group brings relief to the targeted areas and showcases the police’s commitment to public safety, he adds.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, highlighted this achievement on Friday, July 5, 2024, noting it as part of a series of successful operations against kidnappers and armed robbers.

Many of these operations remain undisclosed to protect informants’ identities. In the meantime, the police urge the public, especially medical practitioners, to report anyone with gunshot injuries and also call on Lagosians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to ensure swift police action, reiterating that the Lagos State Police Command remains dedicated to prioritizing the safety and security of its residents.
