A JUBILANT atmosphere filled the Buba Marwa Hall at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello unveiled a significant scholarship initiative.

Clad in a vibrant, floral blazer, she announced a 50 percent tuition scholarship for 556 top-performing students from the Ojo, Ikeja, and Epe campuses who have achieved a first-class cumulative grade point.

In addition to the tuition discount, scholarship recipients were given a branded pen, emblazoned with the gold-coloured word “SCHOLAR.” This gesture reaffirmed a commitment Prof. Olatunji-Bello made on October 25, 2021, marking her first year in office.

The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from students and dignitaries alike.

A freshman, Mojeeb Awonuga, expressed his excitement, saying, “I was elated when she said it. It was motivating that the management deemed it necessary to acknowledge and reward academic excellence, and it spurred me to put more effort into my academics.”

Prof. Olatunji-Bello’s promise extends to both current and graduating students.

Graduating students, she said, will receive a 50 percent refund of their tuition, while undergraduates maintaining a first-class grade will enjoy a 50 percent rebate on their fees each session.

This initiative was introduced during an event celebrating the Vice Chancellor’s first anniversary in office, highlighting her commitment to fostering academic excellence at LASU and underscoring a broader effort to encourage scholarly achievement as well as provide tangible rewards for academic diligence, setting a new standard for recognizing student excellence at the university.
