ACQUISITION OF Black Market, the third novel and fifth book by award winning Nigerian journalist and author Olukorede S. Yishau, has been announced by Masobe Books ahead of its scheduled release in September 2026.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the novel follows the intertwined lives of two Nigerian couples living in Texas, United States: Eyitayo and Yewande, and Tobi and Bukola.
Through their experiences, Yishau examines the assumption within immigrant communities that returning home to choose a spouse protects against marital failure.
Black Market explores identity, loneliness, betrayal, ambition, emotional abuse, cultural expectations and the hidden costs of pursuing the Nigerian dream abroad.
Olukorede’s novel also examines questions around love, compatibility and whether geography has been blamed for broken marriages.
With Black Market, Olukorede presents human stories alongside social commentary, creating a novel centred on relationships, expectations and personal choices.
Masobe Books founder, Othuke Ominiabohs, described the novel as a significant addition to the publisher’s growing catalogue of contemporary African fiction.

For Olukorede, Black Market marks another milestone in a literary career that includes In the Name of Our Father, which was longlisted for the 2021 Nigeria Prize for Literature, Vaults of Secrets, a collection of short stories, and United Countries of America and Other Travel Tales, a collection of travel writings.
Yishau has also won multiple Nigeria Media Merit Awards (NMMA) across reporting categories, including Columnist of the Year, while building a career in journalism as an editor and literary voice.
Set largely in Texas, Black Market examines relationships shaped by expectations carried across continents, portraying the emotional negotiations that occur when tradition meets modernity.
