EFFORTS TO strengthen electricity infrastructure and restore power supply have earned commendation from Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, who praised the management and staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for their professionalism and commitment to improving the electricity value chain.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that in a statement made available to the media, Tegbe lauded the TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation (KTS) in Abuja, stating that the development will significantly expand transmission capacity across the Federal Capital Territory.

He also commended the collaboration between the TCN and AEDC following the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer in the FCT last Friday, which disrupted electricity supply to parts of the nation’s capital.

The minister said both organisations mobilised technical resources and worked round the clock to fully restore supply within 24 hours.

Tegbe described the response as a commendable demonstration of inter-agency synergy and excellent, proactive, citizen centred service delivery championed by the Ministry of Power.

He further praised the management of the NDPHC under its Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, for the successful revival of the 450 Megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State.

The statement noted that the plant, developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), had been shut down for three years since 2023.

JKNewsMedia.com also reports that it stated that the facility is now positioned to dispatch up to 375 Megawatts to the national grid, providing a boost to electricity supply across the Southeast region and strengthening overall grid stability.

Tegbe assured agencies and staff across the power sector that productivity and excellence would be acknowledged and rewarded under his leadership.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to improving Nigeria’s power infrastructure and deployment and urged sector players to remain focused, innovative and relentless in the collective mission to deliver electricity to homes, businesses and industries across the country.
