AS WE advance our tracking of synthetic AI content creators and their influence ahead of the 2027 elections, we examined the relationship between creators’ follower and subscriber numbers and their production of synthetic AI content.
Our analysis shows that creators with over 100,000 followers and subscribers produced significantly more confirmed AI-generated content than creators with fewer than 10,000 followers and subscribers. This difference calls for greater attention from stakeholders.
Our analysts note that social platform owners need to help Nigerian institutions by downplaying algorithms that enable creators with significant followers and subscribers to further shape people’s views and polarise them ahead of the elections through the negative and extreme narratives they are distributing about their targets.
At the same time, our analysts enjoin civil society and non-governmental organisations to increase efforts to educate the public, especially voters, about the dangers of following and consuming content from these creators without applying a critical lens to assess them.
