ABOUT 90 newly qualified medical technicians have bolstered the Nigerian Air Force’s health corps following their graduation from the School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine in Kaduna.
The graduates—drawn from the Sundry Medical A1 Upgrading Course 6/2025 and Basic Medical Course 3/2025—comprise 43 and 47 personnel respectively.
According to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the new entrants will be deployed for national assignments aimed at improving both the internal welfare of NAF personnel and the medical outreach available to the wider Nigerian public.
Abubakar, speaking at the joint graduation ceremony over the weekend, charged the new medics with a call to duty grounded in service and resilience.
“To whom much is given, much is expected,” he reminded the graduates, urging them to apply their training with discipline and resolve in the face of operational challenges.
The enlistment coincides with a strategic infrastructure push by the Air Force, which includes the construction of a 345-bed joint-user accommodation facility designed to serve students of both the NAF School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM) and the Nigerian Air Force College of Nursing Sciences (NAFCONS).
The facility is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery and medical training efficiency.
Abubakar highlighted ongoing investments aimed at reinforcing the Air Force’s medical services infrastructure.
This includes the establishment of 13 hospitals, 41 fully equipped medical centres and clinics, and two major schools dedicated to medical science and aviation medicine.
“Our commitment goes beyond the barracks,” he said. “Through an expanding network of facilities and sustained investment in healthcare, we are delivering quality services not only to our personnel but also to the Nigerian public.”
Also unveiled during the event were three new accommodation blocks in Barakallahu, Kaduna: a 10-unit one-bedroom block for instructors at the military training centre, a 30-unit block for married non-commissioned officers, and a 12-unit transit quarters for single officers.
The upgrades form part of broader efforts to professionalise and modernise the NAF’s healthcare infrastructure and personnel management systems, Abubakar reiterated.
