NAF Strike Destroys Sambisa Terrorist Enclave As Precision Counterterrorism Push Intensifies

RENEWED AIRPOWER dominance defined the latest counterterrorism advance as the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirmed the destruction of a major terrorist enclave in the Sambisa general area during a precision air interdiction mission conducted on 19 November 2025 at a location identified as ARRA.

The statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, detailed how the coordinated strike formed part of a sustained operational response ordered by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke.

According to the release, the air interdiction followed a series of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions that monitored terrorist manoeuvres linked to the 17 October ambush on ground troops at KASHOMRI.

The Air Component of Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI subsequently initiated the attack after analysing ISR footage showing active terrorist structures and suspicious movement patterns within ARRA.

According to the statement, persistent ISR coverage established clear indicators of hostile activity, prompting a deliberate, intelligence-led airstrike.

NAF air assets approached the objectives through successive, coordinated passes designed to ensure accuracy, minimise collateral impact, and deliver maximum operational effect.

The statement noted that every designated target was acquired and engaged as planned, resulting in what the service described as the “complete destruction” of identified threats.

Ejodame’s briefing emphasised that the mission achieved its objectives by degrading several operational assets used by the terrorists, including command nodes and logistics hubs believed to support attacks against both civilian populations and security formations in the region.

The NAF stressed that dismantling these networks remains central to broader efforts aimed at weakening the capacity of insurgent groups to mount coordinated assaults across the North-East.

Further details in the statement referenced deliberate tracking efforts maintained over KASHOMRI and deep sections of the Sambisa axis after the October ambush on troops.

ISR teams, according to the release, followed a pattern of movement that led analysts to identify ARRA as a staging location used by the same network responsible for earlier attacks.

The release highlighted that analysts observed new structures, intermittent night-time activities, and communication signatures suggesting the presence of senior operatives, prompting the subsequent decision to initiate an air interdiction.

Operational planners, according to the statement, ensured that the engagements were executed with precision to prevent regrouping or escape.

NAF aircrew maintained strict adherence to pre-strike protocols, including target confirmation and controlled firing sequences, while continuously updating ground commanders on real-time outcomes.

The release affirmed that early assessments confirmed the neutralisation of several hostile elements and the destruction of makeshift facilities previously used for planning and coordinating attacks.

The statement noted that the strike contributes to ongoing multi-agency operations involving the Air Force, Army, and other components of Operation HADIN KAI.

According to NAF, each phase of the joint mission aims to restrict terrorist mobility, limit access to supply routes, and disrupt the flow of communications across insurgent-held corridors in the Sambisa forest.

Ejodame stated that the successful mission “significantly weakened the terrorists’ operational capacity and disrupted their command and logistics networks,” describing the outcome as a notable step in shaping the security environment in favour of ground forces already conducting parallel clearance operations.

The spokesperson added that the coordinated effort demonstrates the “unwavering commitment” of the service to protect the country, support troops in combat zones, and sustain pressure on terror cells across all theatres.

The statement reaffirmed the Air Force’s resolve to continue neutralising identified threats and ensuring that insurgent elements are denied the freedom to reorganise or expand their operational reach.

NAF also state, the success of the operation reinforces its strategy of combining ISR-led intelligence gathering with precise, deliberate engagements targeted at dismantling hostile strongholds.

The release also stressed that commitments issued by the Chief of the Air Staff continue to guide mission execution across assigned operations.

Ejodame stated that Air Marshal Aneke has repeatedly directed personnel to “act decisively and professionally on all intelligence” while ensuring that air missions remain aligned with the broader national defence objectives.

According to the Air Force, these directives have shaped an operational pattern that prioritises intelligence-driven strikes, rapid response to emerging threats, and strict adherence to rules of engagement.

The statement added that NAF “remains resolute in its mission to neutralise threats, defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity, and secure enduring peace for all citizens,” reiterating that future operations will continue to focus on weakening insurgent networks until they no longer pose security risks.

The development marks another phase in the ongoing counterterrorism campaign, with the Air Force stressing that operations will remain continuous as long as hostile elements maintain footholds in remote forested regions.

The release also stated that the service is maintaining high alertness and expanding ISR activities to cover wider stretches of terrain identified as potential hideouts or transit routes for insurgent fighters.

Ejodame also noted that the Air Component will deepen collaboration with ground forces to sustain pressure on terrorist locations identified through recent surveillance cycles.

The statement further indicated that NAF is prepared to deploy additional strike assets where necessary, depending on intelligence assessments derived from ongoing reconnaissance.

The Air Force reiterated that these operations align with national defence objectives and reflect its strategic priority of deploying airpower to ensure the safety of communities affected by insurgent activity.

According to the spokesperson, the success of the ARRA strike will feed into broader joint operational planning aimed at strengthening stability in the North-East over the coming weeks.

Thereafter, NAF reaffirmed that its personnel remain fully engaged in both day and night operations, maintaining surveillance flights and conducting targeted engagements to hasten the disruption of terrorist activities in remote areas.

According to the release, these sustained efforts form part of a continuous strategy to protect the nation, reassure affected communities, and support ongoing stabilisation initiatives.
