IN COLLABORATION with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF), Polaris Bank has expanded its tree-planting initiative to Kano State.

On Friday, August 30, 2024, the bank and NCF conducted a commemorative tree planting at Ajingi Community Reserve, Kunkurawa.

The project is part of efforts to promote nationwide land restoration.

Polaris Bank’s tree planting scheme began during World Environment Day in June, aligning with the 2024 theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”

The initiative initially took place at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, before reaching other regions.

Mahmud Kawu, Polaris Bank’s Divisional Head for the North, represented the MD/CEO at the Kano event.

He reiterated the bank’s dedication to sustainability, emphasizing that it forms a core part of their values.

He expressed the bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability, responsible banking, and community empowerment.

“Sustainability isn’t just a slogan for us; it’s the heart of what we do. We are committed to this cause with conviction, ensuring our operations reflect Environmental, Social, and Governance principles (ESG),” Kawu stated.

Kawu further explained the significance of the partnership with the NCF, praising their shared mission of sustainable economic growth and environmental conservation.

He encouraged local community members to support the initiative for lasting environmental preservation.

“Today’s event highlights our dedication to restoring the environment and reducing carbon emissions.

Through this tree-planting effort, we aim to raise public awareness about the importance of environmental preservation,” Kawu added.

The project aims to restore degraded areas, combat soil erosion, and enhance the region’s biodiversity.

By absorbing carbon dioxide, trees also play a vital role in reducing overall carbon footprints and mitigating climate change.

Polaris Bank says its continued efforts is to demonstrate its commitment to environmental responsibility and the well-being of communities, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for Nigeria.
