RIVERS STATE — 37 people dead from toxic fumes at an illegal oil site (civil-society figure; police confirmed deaths occurred but did not confirm the toll).
US WITHDRAWAL — Approximately 200 US troops confirmed departing Nigeria. Both AP and Nigerian officials confirmed the departure. What intelligence capability leaves with them is unclear.
BORNO IED — 1 Nigerian soldier killed near Miyanti–Banki Junction on 1 September. A second soldier was wounded and evacuated.
SOKOTO — 5 civilians killed in a bandit attack in Kebbe LGA on 4 September. Three others wounded.
