ILLICIT DRUGS hidden in a duvet and destined for the United Kingdom (UK) were on Saturday intercepted at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).

Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) discovered six parcels of synthetic cannabis, Loud, weighing 3.50kg during routine cargo checks.

Two suspects, Adakole Sunday and Austin Balogun, were arrested in connection with the attempted export.

Balogun admitted to receiving ₦700,000 for the shipment but spent most of it on housing and export fees.

In Ikorodu, Lagos, NDLEA operatives raided a hideout, arresting Joseph Oluwasegun Adewale and Biodun Adelakun.

Seven litres of a psychoactive drink known as skuchies, a mixture of black currant, cannabis, and opioids, were seized along with locally made firearms, ammunition, and an axe.

A separate operation in Mushin recovered 47kg of skunk and 25.46kg of laughing gas, Nitrous Oxide.

Elsewhere, Adepoju Taiwo was apprehended in Ado-Ekiti with nearly 2kg of Canadian Loud, while in Kwara, officers intercepted 50,000 pills of Tramadol weighing 36.56kg.

In Kano, arrests included Nigerien national Abubakar Lami and two others found with skunk and 125 litres of a new psychoactive substance called ‘suck and die.’

Additionally, a cannabis plantation was destroyed in Dawakin Kudu, with Sabo Ali Muhammad taken into custody.

NDLEA officers also ramped up anti-drug campaigns nationwide, delivering lectures and advocacy visits to schools, communities, and traditional leaders.

Notable outreach occurred at Army Children Secondary School in Oyo, District Junior College in Lagos, and Government Day Secondary School in Kebbi.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers across Lagos, Kano, Kwara, and Ekiti for their efforts in combatting drug-related crimes and spreading awareness through the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
