COLLABORATION BETWEEN Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration is set to deepen following strategic talks aimed at enhancing joint action against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
At the meeting held at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) hosted the newly posted DEA Country Attaché, Ms Daphne Morrison.
The discussions reaffirmed long-standing cooperation between both agencies and outlined fresh commitments to intensify future engagements.
Ms Morrison, who described the bilateral partnership as a priority, commended the NDLEA’s ongoing support and pledged continuity in joint operations.
She revealed that additional training programmes are being planned for personnel in the Special Operations Units, alongside coordinated action in pre-identified areas of interest.
“I wanted to make this one of my priorities to come meet with you so we can continue to collaborate and work together,” Morrison stated, noting her readiness to build on the solid foundation laid by her predecessors.
Brig Gen Marwa in turn praised the consistent support received from the DEA, referencing past collaborations in equipment provision, technical training, and operational synergy.
He emphasised the transformation of the NDLEA in recent years, including an expanded workforce, improved operational structures, and significant achievements in reducing both drug supply and demand nationwide.
“We would welcome much more support,” Marwa affirmed, while noting the introductory nature of the visit.
“I’m not going to bring out a long list of demands or requests, but just to acknowledge that we appreciate all the support we’ve been receiving.”
Both parties expressed optimism about sustaining the momentum of collaboration, with expectations for strengthened enforcement capabilities and coordinated strategic initiatives.
