NELFUND Denies Increase In Student Upkeep Allowance

CLAIMS OF an increase in monthly upkeep allowance for student loan beneficiaries have been dismissed, with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) stating that the stipend remains unchanged.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that in a statement issued on Monday, the agency described reports of an increment to N25,000 as misleading and urged students and the general public to disregard such claims.

The statement, signed by the Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, stated that no official decision has been taken to review the allowance upward despite widespread reports suggesting otherwise.

“The approved upkeep allowance remains N20,000 monthly, and not N25,000 as being reported,” the Fund stated, warning against the spread of unverified information.

NELFUND advised beneficiaries to rely on its official communication channels for accurate updates on the student loan scheme, noting that misinformation could create confusion among students nationwide.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, efficiency and student focused service delivery, while appreciating the cooperation and understanding of beneficiaries across the country.

It further encouraged students seeking more clarification to contact the NELFUND through its official email and verified social media platforms.
