Nigerian Army Elevates 105 Officers in Major Leadership Reshuffle

Nigerian Army Elevates 105 Officers in Major Leadership Reshuffle

The Nigerian Army has promoted 28 officers to the rank of Major General and 77 officers to Brigadier General, in a significant reshuffle aimed at strengthening the nation’s military leadership.

The announcement was made on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, acting director of Army Public Relations, confirming that the Army Council approved the promotions during its Thursday meeting.

Key Promotions to Major General

Among those elevated to Major General are officers holding critical positions across intelligence, logistics, and operations, including:

Brig Gen O. Adegbe, Defence Intelligence Agency

Brig Gen S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information

Brig Gen R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence Army

Brig Gen R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations

Brig Gen A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy

Brig Gen S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army)

Brig Gen I.O. Bassey, Director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre

Brig Gen C.A. Ekeator, Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering

Brig Gen S.Y. Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff

Brig Gen S.S. Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI

Brig Gen I.M. Abbas, Commander of the 34 Brigade

The council also approved the posthumous promotion of Brig Gen Z.A. Saidu, recognising his service to the nation.

Colonels Elevated to Brigadier General

Seventy-seven colonels across various corps and departments were promoted to Brigadier General, including:

Col Y. Ibrahim, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja

Col N.N. Gambo, Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs

Col A. Saidu, Headquarters Nigerian Army Finance Corps

Col I. Waziri, Office of the Chief of Defence Staff

Col M.M. Sani, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji

Col M.T. Nagudu, Nigerian Army Armour School

Col K.O. Bukoye, Commander of the 401 Special Forces Brigade

Col Y.K. Audu, Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East Operation HADIN KAI

COAS Charges Officers to Exemplary Leadership

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, congratulated the officers and their families, urging them to uphold their sacred oath of allegiance to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

“The officers must demonstrate exemplary leadership, inspire their subordinates through personal conduct, and cultivate bold, innovative solutions capable of delivering swift and decisive responses to evolving security threats,” Shaibu said.

He stressed that loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute, unwavering, and beyond reproach, reinforcing the army’s commitment to national security.

The promotions are viewed as a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the Nigerian Army’s leadership cadre, particularly in areas critical to intelligence, logistics, and operational effectiveness.
