A SPECIAL promotion has been granted to a Superintendent of Narcotics Francis Ameh Igonoh, by the Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd).

This honour is said to be in recognition of Igonoh’s receipt of the 2024 International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Outstanding Operational Success Award.

During a ceremony where Igonoh was presented his award certificates, Marwa praised his exemplary performance and dedication.

Marwa beaming with pride said: “You have distinguished yourself in our collective mission to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria. Your efforts, which have contributed significantly to dismantling major drug cartels dealing in fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, are a testament to enhanced intelligence operations. We are also grateful for the support of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.”

The NDLEA Chairman also emphasized the broader impact of Igonoh’s work, stating, “Your international recognition brings pride not only to yourself and your family but also to the NDLEA and Nigeria as a whole. The sacrifices made by narcotics officers are invaluable, as each operation directly contributes to making our communities safer. This Agency values the dedication of its personnel, and we remain committed to recognizing and rewarding their hard work and excellence.”

In recognition of his outstanding service, Marwa announced Igonoh’s promotion to Assistant Commander of Narcotics, noting that Igonoh was already due for elevation to Chief Superintendent of Narcotics. This promotion serves as further encouragement for Igonoh and his colleagues.

The award certificate, signed by Harward Lampley, Director of the West Africa Regional Training Center, lauded Igonoh’s commitment and effective use of the skills acquired through ILEA training.

Lampley noted, “Your dedication to employing advanced techniques in combating drug trafficking has significantly contributed to regional and global security. This award underscores your hard work and excellence in countering transnational organized crime.”

Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA in a release issued on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Abuja, notes that the recognition of Igonoh’s efforts not only highlights the progress of the NDLEA but also underscores the global community’s acknowledgment of Nigeria’s pivotal role in the international fight against drug trafficking.
