Nigerian Police Athletes Secure Second Place at 13th Africa Game

WITH 120 medals to their name, Nigerians police athletes have proudly secured second place on the medal table at the 13th Africa Game held in Ghana from March 8th to March 26th, 2024.

Led by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the athletes showcased unparalleled dedication and skill, earning commendation from across the nation.

The outstanding performance of the Nigerian Police team has ignited a wave of pride and admiration, as they competed alongside athletes from diverse corners of the African continent.

Their stellar showing exemplifies the resilience and determination ingrained within the Nigerian law enforcement community.

Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed the jubilation felt within the force, emphasizing how the athlete’s achievements have adorned the country and the police force with honour.

This gush was echoed by the Force Director of Sports, Commissioner of Police, Patrick Atayero, who represented the IGP in celebrating the team’s success.

Atayero highlighted the significance of the 14th Biennial Police Games (Oluyole 2024), which concluded on March 2nd in Ibadan, as a proof to the force’s commitment to fostering sports development initiatives.

The participation and triumphs of athletes such as Inspector Aisha Adamu, Seargent Mohammed Inuwa, and Corporal Nathaniel Samson highlights the talent and dedication within the police ranks.

He said the Nigerian police athletes showcased their prowess across various disciplines, from arm wrestling to athletics, badminton, mixed martial arts, swimming and hockey; noting it was their collective efforts that culminated in an impressive tally of 1 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze medals, elevating Nigeria’s standing at the Continental Sports Fiesta.

CP Atayero expressed gratitude to the team for upholding the values of the force with their dedication and unwavering commitment.

He emphasized that their achievements serve as an inspiration for fellow officers and aspiring athletes nationwide, embodying the limitless potential within the Nigerian sporting landscape.
