News Introduction:

Nigerian youth continue to face barriers to participating in voter education and peacebuilding ahead of the 2027 elections, raising concerns about their inclusion in efforts to ensure credible and peaceful polls.

Report:

ON SEVERAL occasions, stakeholders have posited that youth are an integral part of conducting credible and peaceful elections in 2027. Despite this, barriers to their involvement continue to emerge. In this tracking, we further discovered that Nigerian youth face challenges in actively participating in voter education and peacebuilding.

According to our analysts, these challenges are largely linked to the inclusion of youth in the processes and implementation of these critical aspects of conducting elections.

Our analysts further observed that youth-led civil society and non-governmental organisations working on voter education and peacebuilding are very limited. This serves as a significant contributing factor.

We encourage both youth-led and non-youth-led organisations to intensify efforts to educate young people on the need to exercise their civic responsibilities and contribute to peaceful elections in 2027.
