STRICT BROWSER and device policies now govern access to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)’s self-service modification portal, according to an official advisory issued by the Commission.
The portal allows users to update their National Identification Number (NIN) records online.
The Commission stated that each self-service account is permanently tied to the exact device and browser used during initial registration.
Attempting access from a different browser or device may result in immediate access denial.
This information was contained in a public statement signed by NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke.
“Applicants for the NIN Data Modification must log in using the same browser and device originally used to register the account,” the statement warned.
“Clearing your browser cache can also reset the session and potentially lock you out.”
The Commission noted that once an account becomes locked due to unauthorised access attempts, users have only five chances to request an unlock.
After exhausting those five attempts, no further unlock requests will be accepted.
These access restrictions, NIMC explained, are essential for maintaining the integrity and security of its self-service system and protecting citizens from identity-related breaches.
To avoid disruptions or being locked out of their accounts, users are strongly advised to follow the published technical guidelines. NIMC urged applicants to exercise caution and not attempt login from unfamiliar devices.
For assistance, the Commission directed users to contact customer support via email at nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng.
Dr Adegoke reaffirmed NIMC’s ongoing commitment to delivering secure, efficient digital services while safeguarding the data of Nigerian citizens.
