IMPROVED ELECTRICITY generation has followed the repair and restoration of vandalised gas infrastructure and the enhancement of gas supply to key thermal power plants, signalling a positive shift toward stabilising power supply and strengthening grid reliability nationwide.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) announced the development after the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) completed repair and restoration works on the vandalised Lagos Escravos Lagos gas supply infrastructure.
NISO said the intervention has enabled improved gas availability to several thermal power plants across the country, leading to a notable improvement in power generation.
In a statement signed by its management, NISO said the recovery process is being handled with caution to protect the integrity of both the gas supply network and the national electricity grid adding that the affected power plants are currently undertaking gradual power offtake as part of a controlled recovery process.
NISO also said this measured approach is designed to ensure a smooth return to optimal operations while maintaining grid stability. It said the gradual ramp up is aimed at preventing system stress and ensuring that electricity supply remains reliable as generation levels improve.
The system operator noted the stabilisation process is essential to meeting the electricity needs of industries businesses and households across the country and noted that maintaining balance within the system during the recovery phase is critical to avoiding disruptions and ensuring consistent service delivery.
NISO also disclosed that other thermal power plants remain available and on standby pending confirmation of gas supply from their respective suppliers stating that these confirmations are expected between now and Saturday 27 December 2025.

It said once gas supply is confirmed, the standby plants will be integrated into the national grid to further strengthen generation capacity. NISO said the additional capacity is expected to reduce the risk of outages and enhance overall grid performance.
NISO said it continues to work closely with relevant stakeholders to monitor developments across the power sector. These stakeholders include power generation companies gas suppliers and regulatory bodies adding that its commitment extends beyond immediate recovery efforts, noting that it remains focused on sustaining recent improvements in power generation and grid reliability.
The objective is to ensure a reliable efficient and resilient power system given that a stable electricity supply is critical to supporting Nigeria’s socio-economic development. NISO said continued improvements in generation and grid operations are necessary to meet growing demand and support economic activity.
Calling on electricity consumers to continue practising energy conservation where possible as coordinated efforts to stabilise power supply progress, NISO said responsible energy use will complement ongoing technical and operational measures within the sector.
It also said the collective efforts of industry stakeholders alongside consumer cooperation are important to ensuring that recent gains are sustained. NISO said it remains committed to its mandate of managing the national electricity system in a manner that promotes reliability efficiency and resilience.
NISO said it will continue to provide updates as developments unfold and as additional power plants are integrated into the grid following confirmation of gas supply as it affirms that its focus remains on delivering dependable electricity supply to consumers nationwide.
