THE NIGERIAN National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has addressed concerns over the Port Harcourt Refinery’s operations, refuting claims that the facility is not producing outputs.

NNPCL officials affirmed that the refinery is currently operating at 70% capacity and producing vital petroleum products, with plans to scale operations to 90% capacity.

The company said production figures include 1.4 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, derived from blending straight-run gasoline.

Additionally, the facility outputs 900,000 litres of kerosene, 1.5 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), 2.1 million litres of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO), and undisclosed volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The refinery also utilises Crack C5, sourced from Indorama Petrochemicals, ensuring gasoline blends meet global standards.

The NNPCL emphasised its dedication to refining efficiency and reaffirmed that work on the new Port Harcourt Refinery is progressing, with operations to commence shortly.

NUPENG Commends NNPCL

Reacting to the milestone, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) congratulated NNPCL and its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.

In a statement by NUPENG President William Akproheha and General Secretary Afolabi Olawale, the union described the refinery’s restart as a landmark achievement aligned with national aspirations for energy independence.

NUPENG highlighted the refinery’s achievement of over 16 million man-hours without a single Loss Time Injury (LTI), attributing the feat to meticulous planning and professionalism.

The union commended Kyari’s leadership and the unwavering support of President Bola Tinubu, which it credited for fostering collective success.

The union also expressed optimism about the rehabilitation of the Warri and Kaduna refineries, urging the government to sustain efforts toward revitalising the oil sector.

NUPENG emphasised the importance of the Port Harcourt Refinery in alleviating energy challenges and stabilising the economy through the production of essential petroleum products.

Meanwhile, the NNPCL has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, urging Nigerians to disregard false reports while recognising ongoing progress aimed at achieving national energy security.
