REORTS OF an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) are false and strongly debunked as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has confirmed.

The corporation clarified that recent activities at the facility were part of scheduled maintenance work to enhance operational efficiency.

Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, stated in a release on 7 February 2025 that operations at WRPC’s Area 1 were deliberately reduced on 25 January 2025.

He said this adjustment was necessary to conduct intervention works on select equipment, particularly field instruments affecting sustainable production.

Soneye also adds that the maintenance was aimed at ensuring the refinery continues to produce high-quality finished and intermediate products, including Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and kerosene.

Despite the maintenance activities, he noted that the AGO loading has been sustained at an average of eight trucks per day over the past 11 days.

NNPC Ltd assured stakeholders that Area 1 operations would resume fully within days and reiterated its commitment to an uninterrupted product supply.
