NIGERIAN NATIONAL Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has clarified that the explosion reported at a Mobil Filling Station in Ikeja, Lagos.

The company said it is unrelated to the recently commissioned NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, which remain safe and fully operational.

The company assured the public that all NGML facilities, including pipelines, metering stations, and CNG installations in Lagos, remain fully operational and safe.

The explosion occurred at the Mobil Filling Station on Awolowo Way, Ikeja, earlier Thursday.

Images from the scene show significant damage, with four vehicles, a gas tanker, pump station, and nearby buildings affected.

NNPC emphasized that the NGML was not involved in the incident, and its operations continue without any disruption.

The company released this statement through Mr. Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, in Abuja on August 8, 2024.

A truck reportedly collided with gas cylinders at the affected station, causing the explosion.

NNPC assured the public that its operations remain secure and unaffected by the incident.

As emergency services respond to the scene, residents and local businesses are urged to avoid the area.

The road remains closed to traffic as the situation is being handled.
