CRITICAL HEALTHCARE gaps in eleven KEFFESO communities of Bayelsa State have received a boost through the 2025 health outreach organised by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd cum FIRST E & P Joint Venture (JV).

The initiative provided essential medical services to thousands of residents, reinforcing the company’s commitment to community well-being.

The health outreach, conducted from 29 January to 1 February 2025, aligns with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.

It covered Koluama 1, Koluama 2, Ezetu 1, Ezetu 2, Foropa, Fish Town, Ekeni, Sangana, Opu Okumbiri, Okumbiribeleu, and Oginibiri communities, addressing pressing medical needs among residents.

Medical teams provided consultations, treatment for prevalent illnesses, maternal and child health services, and disease prevention education.

The initiative targeted malaria, hypertension, diabetes, respiratory infections, and other common ailments, ensuring that beneficiaries received free medications and follow-up care.

Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd, Olufemi O. Soneye, emphasised that the outreach is a direct intervention to improve healthcare access in remote communities.

He noted that the NNPC/FIRST E & P JV operates under Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 83 and 85, covering the Anyala and Madu Fields in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Guinea, off the Bayelsa coastline.

Residents expressed appreciation for the programme, highlighting its impact on reducing the financial burden of medical expenses.

Many community members, who struggle with accessing healthcare due to limited facilities and high costs, benefitted from expert medical consultations and treatment.

The NNPC Ltd/FIRST E & P JV reiterated its dedication to sustainable community development, vowing to sustain such healthcare initiatives.

The company aims to enhance its social investment projects, ensuring long-term benefits for host communities.
