STRENGHTENING EMPLOYEE welfare and customer service, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has launched a nationwide health insurance scheme for attendants at its petrol stations.

The Attendants’ Health Insurance Scheme, recently launched by NNPC Retail Ltd in partnership with NNPC HMO, is set to onboard more than 7,000 attendants onto the company’s healthcare platform.

The launch, which took place at the NNPC Mega Station in Abuja, was attended by senior officials, including Baba-Shettima Kukawa, Executive Director, Retail Operations and Mobility, who represented the Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited. Kukawa described the initiative as a milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to improving customer service through enhanced staff welfare.

“Station attendants serve as the primary touchpoints with our customers, and their welfare directly affects the quality of engagement and service delivery,” Kukawa stated.

He explained that the company has developed a comprehensive package known as the ‘Attendant Framework’, which includes the rollout of health insurance coverage effective this month.

“Our goal is to elevate service delivery, ensuring that every customer interaction reflects care, professionalism, and excellence, ultimately driving customer loyalty and sustained patronage,” he added.

The Executive Director emphasised that the scheme is not only a welfare initiative but also a strategic effort to strengthen operational efficiency, boost productivity, and foster sustainable business growth.

“We are going beyond the pump to reinforce our commitment to our people, staff, and customers,” he said.

Representing the Managing Director of NNPC HMO, Ademola Adebusuyi, Deputy Director, Information Technology, highlighted that the company has partnered with trusted healthcare providers to ensure beneficiaries receive quality medical care.

Adebusuyi stated that the scheme offers access to an extensive network of hospitals nationwide, guaranteeing attendants receive timely healthcare services wherever they are stationed.

“Good health is the foundation of productivity, and we encourage attendants to fully utilise this opportunity.

The Attendants’ Health Insurance Scheme ensures support during illness, providing peace of mind knowing that the full weight of the organisation stands behind them,” Adebusuyi said.

Dorcas Luke Onyeche, a Customer Service Attendant at NNPC Retail Mega Station, Abuja, commended the management for prioritising attendants’ welfare.

She said the health insurance scheme would give attendants the confidence to serve customers more effectively and motivate them to contribute meaningfully to the company’s success.

NNPC Ltd said it will continue to position staff welfare as a key driver of service excellence, recognising that well-supported employees are central to delivering professional, consistent, and high-quality service to customers across the nation.
