COMPETITIVE PUSH for sporting dominance drove the final moments of the 14th Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd Sports Fiesta at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where the tournament closed with Team Integrity finishing at the top of the medals table for the week-long event.

The result placed the contingent from the Company’s Port Harcourt and Benin Zones at the centre of the tournament’s concluding celebrations.

Team Integrity secured its lead with 31 gold, 18 silver and 21 bronze medals, alongside nine trophies recorded during the competitions.

The tally positioned the team as the overall best of the fiesta, a result attributed in the release to the combined performances of sportsmen and women drawn from the two participating zones.

The outcome highlighted the spread of competitive strength displayed across the various events contested during the week.

In a press release by the company, it was stated that Team Sustainability, drawn from NNPC’s Abuja and Kaduna Zones, followed in second place with 15 gold, 26 silver and 23 bronze medals.

Team Excellence, featuring athletes from the Lagos and Warri Zones, secured third place with 13 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze medals, rounding off the podium positions in the final rankings.

At the closing ceremony, the Group CEO of NNPC Limited, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, acknowledged what he described in the release as the athletes’ demonstration of resilience, teamwork and excellence.

He said the performances served as a reminder that NNPC Ltd. could excel both on the field and in the marketplace, drawing parallels between sporting qualities and organisational values emphasised within the Company.

The GCEO also stated that attention now shifts to the forthcoming 20th Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games (NOGIG), scheduled for February 2026.

He said the Company looks forward to defending what the release referred to as its “legendary status” as the team to beat at the tournament, adding that he expressed confidence that the athletes emerging from the Sports Fiesta would carry NNPC Ltd’s winning legacy into the next competition.

The GCEO was also quoted as urging employees to transfer the discipline, unity and excellence displayed during the fiesta to their work across the Company.

In his words, “Let the discipline you showed throughout these games elevate our performance; let the unity you built here strengthen our teamwork; let the excellence you demonstrated become our daily standard.”

Also speaking, the Executive Vice President, Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe, addressed participants during the closing ceremony.

She expressed optimism about NNPC’s prospects ahead of the next NOGIG Games, saying that based on the performances witnessed at the Sports Fiesta, “NNPC Ltd is not just going to participate at the forthcoming NOGIG; it is also going to make an impression.”

She further noted that this year’s tournament, themed “Energy In Motion: Compete, Connect & Celebrate,” brought together 450 athletes across the Company, stating that this participation figure symbolised NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to physical well-being as an essential component of organisational productivity, with employees from various zones contributing to the competitive and collaborative atmosphere throughout the week.

Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, in the signed release on 6 December 2025, notes that the fiesta featured competitions across 13 sporting categories which included football, basketball, volleyball, chess, squash, scrabble, 8-ball pool, golf, tennis, table tennis, badminton, swimming and athletics.

He said the range of events provided the platform through which teams from the Company’s zones gained their medals and trophies, contributing to the final standings.
