RECRUITMENT HAS opened for suitably qualified candidates to fill nine positions across the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), with opportunities ranging from trainee roles to assistant management positions.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the government owned agency, responsible for port administration in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Onne, Warri and Calabar, said it was seeking high performing and innovative candidates with the ability to meet deadlines.
The available positions include:
▪️ Pilot Trainee and Marine Engineering Trainee, both on Salary Scale JSS2 and Grade Level 06.
A statement said applicants must possess a minimum of OND in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering, a Seafarers Medical Certificate of Fitness, and the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASCE) or its equivalent.
Also, applicants must be between 20 and 27 years old, while knowledge of ICT will be an added advantage.
NPA Authority also announced openings for Trainee Seaman and Signalman in Training (TSST) on Salary Scale JSS3 and Grade Level 04.
Candidates must also have at least five credits in sciences, including English and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASCE) or its equivalent.
Only applicants who obtained their certificates within the last eight years are eligible for the positions, which are open to candidates between 18 and 25 years old.
Knowledge of ICT will also be an added advantage.
Applications are also open for Radio Officer II on Salary Scale SSS4 and Grade Level 08, as well as Assistant Manager Radio on Salary Scale SSS1 and Grade Level 12.
Applicants must possess a BSc or HND in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Information Technology (EEIT), alongside Standard for Training Certification (STC) and Watch Keeping and Global Maritime Distress Safety System (WKGMDSS) certifications.
▪️Candidates for the Assistant Manager Radio position must have 10 years of cognate experience.
The age requirement is between 23 and 35 years for Positions 5 and 6 respectively.
The successful candidates will maintain Radio and Vessel Traffic Service equipment, ensure the optimal functioning of communication facilities and monitor the quality of radio communications.
▪️Other vacancies include Marine Officer II on Salary Scale SSS4 and Grade Level 08, Senior Marine Officer or Engineer on Salary Scale SSS2 and Grade Level 10, and Assistant Manager Harbours on Salary Scale SSS1 and Grade Level 12.
▪️Applicants for Marine Officer II must possess an OND in Nautical Science, an Officer of the Watch Unlimited Certificate of Competency and a Seafarers Medical Certificate. Candidates must be between 22 and 35 years old.
▪️The Senior Marine Officer or Engineer position requires a Class 2 Certificate of Competency, Chief Mate Unlimited or First Mate Certificate, and a Seafarers Medical Certificate. Applicants must be between 25 and 35 years old.
▪️Candidates for the Assistant Manager Harbours position must possess a Class 1 Certificate of Competency, Deck Unlimited, and a Seafarers Medical Certificate, and must be between 25 and 35 years old.
Also, the NPA stated that the ability to swim is a necessary prerequisite for the Pilot Trainee and Assistant Manager Harbours positions.

It however cautioned that only shortlisted applicants will be invited for a written test, interview and medical examination.
NPA finally stressed that no fee is required for its employment process and warned members of the public against illegal websites purportedly soliciting applications for employment with the NPA.
