ANNOUNCING a significant stride towards alleviating the infrastructural challenges in the state, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, has made this known by awarding a contract for the reconstruction of the 63km Ado-Odo/Abeokuta expressway.

The statement was made on Thursday during the commissioning ceremony of the Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode road in Yewa South Local Government Area.

Abiodun highlighted the strategic importance of the Ado-Odo/Abeokuta Road, describing it as the second busiest in Nigeria.

He said that its completion would facilitate the efficient transportation of goods and services from the area through the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, thereby enhancing the state’s economic integration with other parts of the country. “This road is crucial for the economy of Yewaland, Ogun Central, and the entire Ogun State,” Abiodun stated.

In addition to the Ado-Odo/Abeokuta expressway, Governor Abiodun detailed ongoing projects, including the Sagamu-Papalanto road, with further plans for the Papalanto to Ilaro segment well underway. He proudly noted, “The Ado-Odo/Abeokuta Road will be the most expensive road project our administration has undertaken, underscoring its importance to our economic strategy.”

Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to equitable development across Ogun State, citing the construction of affordable housing in Ilaro and the completion of multiple road projects in Ogun West Senatorial District.

He also outlined a strategic agricultural programme aimed at transforming the region into the country’s food basket and cotton hub adding that his infrastructure-focused approach is part of the celebrations marking his administration’s fifth-year anniversary.

Abiodun emphasized the vital role of infrastructure in attracting investors and opening up economic opportunities. “Infrastructure is a key economic enabler,” he said, “and this new road will significantly enhance the economic prospects of Yewaland and Ogun State.”

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, praised the reconstruction of the Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode road.

He recounted the road’s poor condition, which had led to numerous accidents, kidnappings, and robberies. “By rehabilitating this road, Governor Abiodun has saved countless lives and revitalized our local economy,” Senator Adeola remarked.

Former Governor Olusegun Osoba also commended Governor Abiodun for prioritizing people-oriented projects over elitist ones.

Osoba highlighted the region’s historical role as the state’s food basket and endorsed the governor’s urban renewal programmes aimed at further economic development.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, stated that the road project would catalyze socio-economic development and attract investors, thereby creating employment opportunities for the youth. “This road will bring prosperity to our people and make the area a magnet for business,” Akinsanya noted.

Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, praised the collaborative efforts of Governor Abiodun and the National Assembly members from the senatorial district.

He noted that despite its importance, the road had been neglected by previous administrations, and the recent reconstruction marked a significant milestone in the area’s development.

The event culminated with the official commissioning of the Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode road by former Governor Osoba.

In a related development, President Bola Tinubu commended Governor Abiodun for his people-centric governance approach.

In a congratulatory message on the governor’s 64th birthday and fifth year in office, the President highlighted Abiodun’s successful transition from business to public service, praising his dedication to the people of Ogun State.

“Governor Abiodun has brought his wealth of experience as a business mogul to bear in the governance of the Gateway State. We celebrate his achievements and wish him continued good health and strength in serving the people of Ogun State,” President Tinubu’s statement read.
