TOWARDS MAINTAINING fiscal discipline and ensuring responsible utilization of public funds, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has reiterated his administration’s commitment.

Speaking at the 4th annual internal auditors retreat organized by the audit monitoring department of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) in Abeokuta, Abiodun emphasized the significance of accountability and transparency in governance.

Represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun highlighted the state’s successful efforts in sealing financial leaks, asserting that these measures are crucial for sustainable development.

He lauded the retreat’s theme, “Enhancing Efficiency and Effectiveness in the Administration of Public Resources: The Role of Internal Auditor,” and assured attendees of his administration’s support in fostering prudent financial management practices.

The retreat also featured remarks from key federal officials. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, represented by Permanent Secretary for Special Duties Mr. Okokon Udoh, stressed the importance of robust administrative mechanisms to mitigate waste and corruption through effective reforms.

Also, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Mr. Olaonipekun Olukoyede, represented by Director of Internal Audit Mrs. Idowu Apejoye, noted that the retreat would bolster efforts to combat corruption and ensure judicious utilization of government revenues.

Accountant-General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, in her welcome address, commended Governor Abiodun for the warm reception and highlighted Ogun State’s strategic importance.

She stressed the workshop’s relevance to the current administration’s policy goals under President Bola Ahmed, which focus on curbing mismanagement and promoting accountability.

Ogun State’s Accountant General and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Tunde Aregbesola, expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided to internal auditors to enhance their skills in managing public funds.

He acknowledged the persistent challenges of accountability and corruption but expressed confidence that the retreat would improve efficiency and transparency in public resource management.
