Online PVC Registration Portal Opens As INEC Extends CVR Deadline

ELIGIBLE NIGERIANS can now register for a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) through a new self-service online portal introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of efforts to simplify the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that the commission also extended the ongoing nationwide CVR exercise by two weeks, moving the deadline from July 10 to July 24, 2026, following feedback from political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

INEC said the online platform enables first time voters to complete their registration using a smartphone, including biometric capture. Existing voters can also update their records, transfer their polling units or apply for replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter’s Cards.

Applicants are required to visit the INEC Self Service Portal (ISSP), select the Register Online option and create an account by providing their first name, surname, phone number, email address and password before completing the security verification.

The commission said applicants must verify their National Identification Number (NIN) to confirm their identity and prevent multiple registrations before completing their personal information.

Required details include full name, date of birth, gender, occupation, nationality, residential address, state and local government area of residence, educational qualification and disability status where applicable.

Applicants are also expected to select their preferred state, local government area, ward and polling unit where they intend to vote. Supporting documents should be uploaded where required before proceeding.

INEC said applicants can capture their passport photograph and fingerprints using the official INEC mobile application after scanning the QR code generated by the portal.

Applicants are advised to review all submitted information before completing the registration.

The portal also allows users to track the status of their applications.

The commission said the platform also provides services for transfer to another polling unit, correction or update of personal information, replacement of lost, stolen or damaged PVCs, tracking of submitted applications and locating the designated INEC office for their PVC collection.

INEC said applicants without smartphones capable of biometric capture or those yet to obtain a NIN can use the pre-registration option.

The commission said the process requires applicants to complete an online pre-registration form, book an appointment at an INEC registration centre, print their application slip and visit the selected centre for biometric capture before collecting their PVC’s when notified.

INEC noted that the pre-registration option significantly reduces waiting time at registration centres because most of the registration process is completed online before the physical biometric exercise.

The commission urged all eligible Nigerians who have yet to register to use the online platform before the July 24, 2026, deadline to participate in future elections.
