Osun Election: Tinubu Halts EFCC’s N11bn Action—Neutrality Or Control Of Anti-Graft Agency?

Now what happens next that President Tinubu can order the EFCC?

President Tinubu has directed the EFCC to end its court-backed action freezing an Osun State Government account.

Watch here:

The EFCC linked the action to an investigation into the alleged handling of about N11 billion.

Osun rejected the allegations and described the account restriction—coming days before the governorship election—as politically motivated.

Tinubu said his intervention was necessary to prevent a federal agency from appearing to influence the election.

But this raises a bigger question:

If the President can tell the EFCC when to stop, can he also tell it whom to investigate?

In this episode of The Other Side, Rimamnde Shawulu examines the EFCC’s independence, the legal limits of presidential power and Nigeria’s long history of alleged selective anti-corruption enforcement.

Did Tinubu protect electoral fairness—or expose the EFCC’s lack of independence?
