COMMISSIONER OF Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has initiated immediate disciplinary proceedings against a team of police officers captured in a widely circulated video allegedly assaulting a man suspected to be resisting arrest.

Responding to complaints of rampant drug abuse on Makinde Odewale Street, Oregun, the Alausa Division of the Lagos State Police Command deployed officers on July 2, 2024.

The operation encountered fierce resistance, resulting in severe injuries to an Inspector who was reportedly stabbed in the head with a broken bottle, and an assault on the Olu of Alausa and CDA Chairman.

The injured Inspector is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

In a statement released today, July 3, 2024, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, acknowledged that despite challenges, a reinforcement team managed to apprehend several suspects in possession of suspected illicit drugs.

However, the actions of the reinforcement team in attempting to apprehend those responsible for the attack on the police officer were caught on video and have sparked controversy due to their perceived lack of professionalism.

CP Fayoade has unequivocally condemned the conduct of the involved officers, asserting that their actions contradict the core values and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

He also condemned the assault on police officers by youths, emphasizing that those responsible will face legal consequences.

The Lagos State Police Command affirms its commitment to upholding law and order, preventing crime, and ensuring the apprehension and prosecution of offenders.
