BEAMING WITH ecstasy on Sunday as he officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the 700km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Lagos, President Bola Tinubu was unable to hide his joy.

In his words, “This monumental project is set to revolutionize Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure and enhance the economic potential of the coastal regions.”

The president also reminisced about his previous ambitious undertakings, including the creation of a 10 million square meter city from reclaimed land, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, and the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

The coastal highway, he noted, would further solidify his legacy of infrastructural innovation and economic revitalization.

Commending the efforts behind the project, President Tinubu lauded Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for his dedication and meticulous planning. He also expressed gratitude to Ambassador Gilbert Chagoury and Engr. Ronald Chagoury of Hitech Construction Company, the firm entrusted with the execution of this strategic endeavor, for their unwavering belief in Nigeria’s potential.

Reflecting on past challenges, President Tinubu recounted the successful efforts to protect Victoria Island from the encroaching Atlantic Ocean.

“Together, we have now transformed a potential disaster into a valuable asset,” he stated. “Today is my day to boast. My bragging day. Today, I hold the bragging right.”

He stressed the project’s significance, emphasizing its potential to serve as a lasting legacy and a symbol of hope, unity, and prosperity. “This road is more than a mere passageway; it represents our commitment to a prosperous future,” Tinubu declared. “It will connect communities, bring economic opportunities, and improve the lives of millions.”

The president highlighted the direct and indirect employment opportunities the project would create, estimating thousands of jobs and vast economic benefits. He also noted that the highway would provide improved access to production and marketing centers for approximately 30 million people, facilitating the free movement of goods and services.

In light of the recent United Nations decision to extend Nigeria’s continental shelf by an additional 16,300 square kilometers, Tinubu emphasized the need to capitalize on these opportunities by establishing more export processing zones along the coastal states.

Minister Umahi, praising President Tinubu’s visionary and courageous leadership, assured that due process was followed in awarding the contract for this transformative project, reinforcing the government’s commitment to transparency and excellence.

He noted that as construction begins, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway stands as a testament to President Tinubu’s enduring vision and determination to build a nation of enduring prosperity and connectivity.
